Pepperwood Restaurant Group wins a Chamber of Commerce Award and the hearts of Burlington residents July 27th 2010
At long last, spring has arrived and summer’s just around the corner. It’s the time of year when we shed our winter blues and rediscover our surroundings. We say hi to neighbors we might not have seen all winter and start to make plans with friends to go out and enjoy ourselves. As the fancy strikes, we often look out of town for places to visit, but if you didn’t already know it, Burlington has a lot to offer locally when you’re seeking fine food and entertainment. One such place is the Pepperwood Restaurant Group, which offers not just one, but several places throughout Burlington where you can go out and eat, relax and have your every fancy taken care of. Let me take you on a tour of Burlington and show you how one chain of restaurants can fulfill any of your social/dining needs.
First on the list is The Pepperwood Bistro located at 1455 Lakeshore Rd., right at the corner of Brant and Lakeshore. A stone’s throw away from Spencer Smith Park, why not consider stopping here after an afternoon stroll to sit down and relax on the outdoor shaded patio with a cool drink on their pizza/pasta waterfront bar and patio. If you’re looking for a little more intimacy, I recommend sitting in the indoor Dining Room with a menu that will tantalize all of your senses. If you’re looking for something to do on the weekend, Fridays and Saturdays have live entertainment and the Sunday Jazz Brunch is considered one of the best experiences in Burlington.
If you’re looking for a little Italian/Mediterranean, head on up the street to 421 Brant St. where you’ll discover La Costa Nuova - Burlington’s premiere venue for casual fine dining. Offering lunch Monday to Friday, and dinner Monday to Sunday – the food is outstanding, the variety of wines will suit every taste, and with excellent service in a comfortable/upscale décor, everyone enjoys dining here.
So you’re looking for something a little more casual, simply go to the lower level of La Costa Nuova where you’ll find the Big Tomato. Renowned for it’s “Big taste with friendly prices,” what you’ll find here is a warm casual atmosphere that serves up the best wood oven pizzas and appetizing pastas.
If you’re craving seafood, go to 4045 Harvester Rd. (east of Walkers Line) and you’ll find Walkers Fish Market. The ever-changing menu printed twice daily puts the freshest seafood from every coastline on your table. You can dine fireside in the dining room, socialize at the island bar or dine by candlelight on the outdoor patio. Only the freshest of the fresh is even considered, and chef-driven dishes are a real favorite for true seafood lovers.
When all is said and done, this group of restaurants not only takes pride in offering the best of food and services to Burlington residents, they also choose to give back to the community. This year the Pepperwood Restaurant Group was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce with the “Mayor’s Community Service Award” for their support of the United Way, Cystic Fibrosis, Royal Botanical Gardens and the Miriam Group.
Now that you’ve taken this tour, why don’t you get out and partake in some of what the Pepperwood Restaurant Group has to offer? They’d love to have you and entertain you at any of their fine locations.

Dear Mr. Manager/Owner,
We were recently visiting in Burlington, and met a woman who told us you ''must try Walker's Fish Market'. Coming from Montreal, we were very interested in having a relaxing and first class meal in an ambience which was unique.
We were recommended to your restaurant, and what a fabulous and unforgettable experience. The decor and atmosphere were relaxed. We sat on the side away from the bar area, and were served by a very caring
and thorough server (Sarah), who was delightful.
The food and its presentation were first class - and we come from a city of plentiful good and unique restaurants. We subsequently recommended your restaurant to several people in Burlington, Oakville and
Mississauga.
Thank you for making our Friday evening such a delightful experience. We hope that you keep up the high standard which we experienced and look forward to a next visit in the near future to Burlington - not only to see our new grand-daughter, but also to visit your restaurant, and savor another delicious meal in a delightful atmosphere.
Sincerely,
Michael Rosman

Dietitians keep urging us to eat more fish, but you don't see many new seafood restaurants popping up. Which makes Walkers Fish Market a welcome addition.
The slick eatery offers 10 varieties of fresh catch from local lakes and faraway seas offered in five applications.
With appealing presentation and engaging staff, my visits scored good marks.
The eatery is kind on the eyes, too, with a variety of rich wood accents, coffee-and-cream coloured walls and cream-and-chocolate toned banquettes.
Sweetwater crab cakes ($10.95) were smaller than those I've tried elsewhere, but were rich and spicy. The thick bronzed discs were elevated by a vivid chili aioli that was streaked across them and the rectangular platter. A collection of undressed greens occupied one corner.
I chose the rainbow trout ($16.95) from Copper River, Ont., from a selection that included Lake Erie pickerel and Hawaiian ahi tuna. The order took a bit of time to arrive, but I was rewarded with a large piece of the pink-fleshed fish that fell off the skin.
Steamed with green onion and ginger, the delicate trout was draped over two big bulbs of bok choy with a sticky rice mattress in between. Sweet and sharp hoisin sauce was a nice counterpart to the subtle fish. Crunchy slivers of red and yellow pepper added texture, and the bok choy was a fresh-tasting option.
The meal was served on a smart and pristine platter at the bar area, a fine perch for taking in some sports and surrounding tables.
In a couple of other tasting experiences, the novel Lobster Mac and Cheese ($12.95) came as a mix of macaroni with chunks of lobster and molten cheddar cheese. It was a bit greasy and very rich.
To test the landlubber side of the menu, I tried the house gourmet hamburger ($11.95) on a late-night visit. It was an eight-ounce puck of lean beef in a warmed bun with greens and tomato, good and nongreasy in-house fries and a serving of cole slaw, also made in the restaurant.
My tasting had a cool conclusion with a slice of ice cream lime pie, a swell marriage of two forms and tastes that won favour.
Walkers Fish Market offers fair value and excellent quality in an agreeable setting pulled together by the folks in the Pepperwood group of restaurants.
